'Indian' Dinky toys (Not 'Nicky' toys)
These are the seldom seen 1st generation Indian Dinky Toys - not the later & more abundant Nicky toys. This large haul of 15 has recently been discovered after remaining hidden for several decades in loft in the South of England.
The cars retain the correct 'Dinky Toys' on the boxes - plus "Made in India" on the baseplate. This detail is very important because it's the only case of a relocated Dinky Toys that will receive a mention other than made in England or made in France. Indeed, the models produced at 'Harris' in South Africa or the 'Poch' in Spain never received a mention engraved on the baseplate indicating their new country of manufacture, only boxes would carry this mention.
Only a short matter of time into the new venture Dinky became very unhappy & some what embarrassed due to the quality of finish to the models. So they withdrew their support and ordered that the Dinky name not to be associated with any further production in Calcutta. This is when the emergence of the name Nicky toys appeared for the first time & lasted until they ceased production in the 1980's.
Early Indian Dinky models are very rare and difficult to find. As much of an interest as the other offshore productions such as 'Poch' & 'South African'
Such an incredible find and I'm so very excited to offer these for sale.
