In 1966 The Sun offered the first (No.1) opportunity to win 1 of 250 1st issue Batmobiles. According to the newspaper cutting you had to trace the image provided, then colour in Batman & Robin and return it to Batmobile Competition No.1, The Sun, Garrick Street London, W.C.99. Entries had to be returned by 12th November 1966.
There was then a second opportunity (No.2). Slightly different this time, you were now asked to come up with a name for your Batmobile then return it to Batmobile Competition No.2, The Sun, Garrick Street London, W.C.99. Entries had to be returned by 19th November 1966.
Model:
This 1st issue 267 comes in gleaming black finish. Batman & Robin sat where they should be. Gold & red bat wheels, well shaped tyres, straight aerial, intact suspension, operational functions including pulsating flame, large batman logo's to either side, nice chrome dashboard, unmarked pale blue screens & immaculate baseplate. Virtually mint
Box & packing:
The picture box is brightly coloured with a nice feel & no repairs or punctures. Does show some very light age wear.
The plinth is bright with a couple of small wheel tab tears to note.
The secret instruction pack is opened, with lapel badge applied, partial sprue of missiles, features slip & instructions.
Retailer pack of additional missiles. Some loose & some on sprues.
Cuttings & letter:
Comes with several newspaper clippings outing the 1966 competition, a cutting naming all the winners of contest No.2 & importantly The Sun letter dated December 1966.
